NEW! WEDDING OFFICIANT (nondenominational) We will officiate (perform) the marriage ceremony itself and, after you're married, we will file the required completed legal document with Lane County. Before any of that, you must have a marriage license! Check with Lane county about obtaining your marriage license well before your planned wedding date. Our notaries are commissioned by the Oregon Secretary of State.
They adhere to the following:
“A notary public is commissioned by the state and acts as an officer of the state.” (2020 Oregon Notary Public Guide) The main function of the notary is to witness a legal proceeding so that the courts and other interested parties can be certain that the person signing a document knows what is being signed, is able to understand the action taken, and is in fact the person whose signature is on the document.
NOTE: Notaries are NOT licensed to practice law. They are not allowed to draft legal records, or give advice on legal matters, including immigration. A notary must NOT choose or advise you about which certificate is to be used for any notarial act.
